Kata Beach is one of Phuket's most photogenic bays, divided into Kata Yai (big beach) and the smaller, more exclusive Kata Noi around the headland. Its manageable scale, clear water, and good infrastructure make it a favourite for families and couples.

The main beach has a gentle slope and lifeguards in season. A village behind the sand offers cafes, minimarts, and tour desks without the intensity of Patong, just 10 minutes away by car.

Learn to surf on Kata's monsoon swells (May to October), snorkel at Kata Noi, hike to the Karon viewpoint, visit the Big Buddha, explore Kata night market, and book island tours from the beach road.

Kata Rock and the southern headland offer dramatic photo spots at sunset.

Kata excels in mid-range and boutique hillside hotels with panoramic Andaman views. Many properties have family rooms and pools. Club Med Phuket sits at the northern end for all-inclusive stays.

Kata Beach Road has beachfront seafood grills, Italian pizzerias, and Thai kitchens. The southern end is quieter; the north near Club Med has more resort dining. Kata village cafes are good for breakfast and coffee.
