Patong

Phuket's most famous beach town, known for vibrant nightlife, shopping and Bangla Road.

Patong

Overview

Patong is Phuket's busiest beach resort, stretching along a crescent of sand on the island's west coast. For decades it has been the default base for first-time visitors who want energy, entertainment, and easy access to tours, shopping, and restaurants. The beach itself is three kilometres long with calm swimming in high season (November to April). Inland, Rat-U-Thit and Bangla roads are packed with malls, massage shops, and international dining. Patong suits travellers who like a lively atmosphere and do not mind crowds during peak season.

Things To Do

Swim and sunbathe at Patong Beach, explore Jungceylon Shopping Mall, walk Bangla Road after dark, try parasailing and jet skiing, book a long-tail boat to Freedom Beach, visit Simon Cabaret, and take a Thai cooking class. Day trips to Phi Phi, James Bond Island, and Phang Nga Bay all depart from nearby piers. Book tours a day ahead in peak season.

Best Hotels

Patong has Phuket's widest hotel range — from budget guesthouses in Soi Sansabai to five-star beachfront resorts on Beach Road. Hillside hotels near Kalima offer quieter stays with sea views and shuttle buses to the beach. Families often choose Karon or Kata for a calmer base but still visit Patong for an evening out.

Best Restaurants

Patong serves everything from street-side pad thai to international fine dining. Beach Road seafood restaurants are tourist-friendly; Soi Sansabai and Nanai Road have better-value local Thai food. Try Jungceylon food court for quick meals, or book ahead for popular seafood buffets on the beachfront.
