Phuket has a tropical climate with two broad seasons. The dry season from November to April brings calm seas, sunny days and the busiest tourist period. Australian school holidays and Christmas/New Year push prices up, especially in Patong, Kata and Bang Tao.
The southwest monsoon from May to October brings more rain and choppier seas on the west coast, but showers are often brief and hotel rates drop noticeably. Surfers favour Kata and Kamala during this period.
For families and first-time visitors, November to March offers the most reliable beach weather. Shoulder months like May and October can offer good value with fewer crowds.
